THE PRESS HAS A RIGHT TO PUBLISH PHOTOGRAPHS AND INFORMATION ABOUT THE PRIVATE LIFE OF CELEBRITIES
The paparazzo industry has experienced a noticeable boom in the last decades: everybody is anxious to know the latest scandal of that drunken celebrity or about the secret lover of that multimillionaire football player. Nevertheless, it is often discussed whether the press has the right to publish details of such compromising affairs. Personally, I do not support the idea of invading someone’s privacy in exchange for money.
Firstly, everyone has the right or should have the right to decide what aspects of their lives they want to portray to the public eye. In other words, your private life must remain private and if someone violates that privacy, the law must compensate you.
Secondly, we must remember that celebrities are humans too and they suffer in their daily lives. If we focus all the mass media attention on them while they are going through hard times we risk putting their mental health in a fragile state.
To sum up, I do not consider it ethical to constantly chase and annoy celebrities just for the sake of enjoying gossip. In my opinion, this is just the result of pure envy and wannabe desires.
