An informal e-mail to my friend Jimmy

Hello, Jimmy!
How is it going? I’m very glad to hear from you!
Talking about what you was wondering, there’s nothing special at all. I really took part in London Marathon. I remember how exciting it was and,   must admit, difficult as well. Even there were moments when I wanted to leave everything, but I couldn’t: I already had entered in the game. I set a goal: avoid a sedentary lifestyle I had before, work out a lot and go on a diet which consisted in cut chocolate and junk food out, replacing it for something healthier like vegetables and fruits. I think it helped me very much. If I were you I would do the same. And I’m not talking about something impossible. On the contrary, I believe that applying an effort and will it’s very simple.
You know what? This Christmas I’m going to France to see the city. Hope I will finally meet your elder brother and he will show me the real Paris.
Well, I’d better go and finish my school project.
All the best,
Mark
PS Sophie sends you kisses

Hi!

Hope all’s well.

You won’t believe this but I’m taking part in a Gorilla Fun Run too. It’s a hard and difficult Run. You must be fit and stay in shape for run 7 kilometres. Last year we got a lot of money to save the gorillas. Dress up to gorillas it is the more fun to race  It is true, the race is for a good cause and it’ll   get in shape.

The most important is having a balance  diet without eat fast food. Make physical activity, like cycling or jogging, three o two times a week. And specially drink a lot of water during the Gorilla Fun Run. Don’t forget that the race is for a good cause and it’s important. You will have fun!
Well, I’d better go. I have a lot of homework!

All the best,

Mark

PS See you in September.

Hi!
How’s it going? Hope all’s well.
I’m interested very much in staying in shape, so I can recommend you some activities that will be very useful to you to keep feet. First of all, you ought to push yourself everyday to get used to work out three days a week at least. I know that it’s very hard to do it at the beginning, but later you will be able to do more strenuous exercise. It’s very important to have a balanced diet as well, and If you like running, I strongly recommend you to go jogging.
I’ve recently done the New York’s marathon in which I was among the 100 people who arrived first to the end, so I am really pleased with my efforts. Anyway, remember that making exercise isn’t only good for your body, but also for your brain.
It‘s great to know how you are, so don’t forget writing me always you can.
I send you my best wishes,
Mark

Hi there!
How are you? I was very glad to receive your email and to have news about you after a lot of time without seeing and hearing from eachother! I can also see from your email everything is going you OK and it makes me really happy.
Referring to get fit for your run, if I were you I would begin running a period of one or two hours everyday. You should start lightly increasing yourself the intensity as time goes by. In this way, you’ll probably be running with a moderate rhythm before the run in September. It’s important you to compromise yourself so that you practice if not the whole week, at least five times a week, so that you’ll get used to it and will feel progressively in shape. Furthermore, you should also take care about what you eat until the run. Eat four or five times a day without skipping meals, and try to avoid fats and fizzy drinks. Make sure you follow a balanced diet, eating properly before doing exercise and with a little of control before going to bed. Remember to drink a lot of water everyday once you finish running.
Talking about me, I’d like you to know I’m taking a plane to France next Sunday to spend in Paris two months as my high school has recently given to me a sponsorship. I’m very excited and expect to learn a lot of French and mix myself with new people.
Well, I think that’s all for now. I’d like to have more news about you as soon as possible, and please write me again if you want more details about your run or simply need something.
Take care,
Mark
P.S: I’m sure you’ll achieve it trying not to give up my indications. Good luck with the run!

Hi Jimmy!

Since I didn’t get any news from you in a while, I couldn’t guess what you were going to do. Nevertheless, I think it’s a great idea and a fantastic plan. I hope you’ll have fun as I did last year in the London Marathon. In order to get fit, if I were you I would work out by going regularly to the gym from now till September and have a balanced diet. You should avoid junk food and eat healthier, for example by introducing all kinds of fruit and vegetables in your meals. I hope you can stick to it even if it's tough. Although if this kind of Fun Runs require a lot of time you’ll appreciated it as you’re going to participate in a useful charity program.
You’ll never believe this but I’m going to Los Angeles next week with Annie and two more friends. Isn’t it great? I’m exhilarated to know more about USA and, in particular, about the city of the cinema and parties.
That’s all for now. I hope to have some news when I’ll return from my journey.
All the best,
Tom
PD: I send you a lot of energy for your trainings.

I’m glad to hear from you!

Hi Jimmy!

It's been great to hear such good news from you! I’m sure you’re really excited about the race.

As soon as I read about that run I remembered about the London Marathon. In fact you’re not talking to the right person because I actually had to stop running after 3 miles- I was completely exhausted! However, I can advise you about the things you shouldn’t do: stop eating in fast food restaurants too often, go to the gym as much as you can, forget about partying two days before the race and try to become familiar with the roads in which you will be running in the race day. BTW if I were you I would try out the costume and try to run wearing it to make sure is more or less comfortable.

Well Jimmy, good luck and don’t forget to email me back after the race!

All the best,

Álvaro

PS Funny idea the gorilla costumes.

Hi Jimmy! You're right, we haven't talked in a month of Sundays!
I can't imagine you taking part in a marathon, but it sounds really good. I'm sure you'll have a good time and gorillas will also appreciate it. Well, first of all, you must have a balanced diet. If I were you, I'd better cut junk food out and eat many fruit. By the way, I remember you weren't very fond of doing exercise, so you'll need to train a lot! In my opinion, yo should start going jogging some times a week, and regularly go harder with it.
I have to say that I've just moved home, so you can come when wanted- I still live in the same neighborhood. Come with Ellie too!
Well, that's all for now. If you need some more advice, don't hesitate to ask me.
All the best,
Mark

Hello Jimmy!
How are you? It’s been a long time since we met for the last time! I hope you’re doing fine!
I’ve read your email and I think that it’s a great idea to take part in that event! In my opinion, if you want to be able to finish that race you should start training now! You should workout and push yourself. But physical exercise is not the only thing that you ought to do; you should have a balanced diet, at least until the day of the race. Try to avoid junk food and eat a lot of fruit and vegetables because that will give you the nutrients you need to stay in shape and have more stamina! Nevertheless, this isn’t only about the body. I think that you should put your mind in that race from now onwards. Concentration always plays an important roll in any kind of competition or sport!
Do you remember that I had a band? Well, here’s the thing; we won a international band contest a few weeks ago! We were given a lot of cool prizes and next month we’re travelling to many other countries to play some gigs. Isn’t that awesome?
Well, I think I’ve got to leave because I’m rehearsing with my band this afternoon and I’m late! I hope we can see each other soon!
Best wishes,
Mark

Hi, Malcome! How are things? I hope everything is fine.

Thank you for responding to my mail. I think it is a good idea for me to practice my English and for you to practice your Spanish through emails. I will be very glad to help you.

I live with my parents. I have two sisters. I am the medium, my sister is therteen and my old sister twenty-two. My father is a lawyer and my mom helps us. They work all day but they always have time for their children. I study at SIL school. I enjoy the school system and my classmates. I have some good friends, too! Next year, I plan to go to university, what about you? I´d like to be a lawyer. On weekends, I like to go out with friends, I don´t like parties very much, it doesn´t make much sense to me to listen to very loud music and to get drunk. I prefer a quiet evening with nice food and soft music. I love Italian food. What´s your favorite music and food? I´ll be very glad to hear from you soon. Please correct my English and don´t forget to answer my email in Spanish.

Best regards,

Name

READING NOV 12th

A DOUBLE LIFE

Len Parkins is 24 and for the past three years he has worked in a bank in a small town in the north of England. There is nothing unusual or surprising about Len’s appearance. He is of average height, neither fat nor thin, and his face is pleasant but quite ordinary. For work, at least, Len dresses conservatively. Today, for instance, he is wearing a dark suit, white shirt, blue tie and black shoes. Len, however, is living proof that appearances can be deceptive.
‘I look like this because it’s what people expect of me in this job’, says Len.‘This is a small place and people are friendly but they have certain expectations. They don’t want to come into their local bank to be served by someone with green hair and a ring through his nose. I actually like body art and modern clothes but they aren’t acceptable at the bank. Of course I can wear what I want in the evenings and at weekends. I can also have piercings and tattoos but they can’t be too obvious.’
In fact, Len has tattoos all over his upper body and arms. Some of them are very intricate and colourful. They are not visible at work because he wears long-sleeved shirts. He also has a piercing through his navel and he is thinking of having his nipples pierced too. Len says this is his way of rebelling a little against the world of work and routine. He seems to be
conforming, but underneath his clothes he shows his creative side by adorning his body in different ways. ‘People think that if you work in a bank, you are a boring person with no interest in fashion,’ says Len. ‘At weekends I don’t dress like this at all. I love jeans, T- shirts and bright colours. I would like to experiment more with different hair styles too, but my job makes it difficult.’ Len’s work ‘uniform’ of suit, shirt and tie might lead you to believe that his taste in music is on the conservative side too. In fact, he has an extremely varied and up-to-date collection of CDs. R ‘n’ B and hip hop are favourites at the moment. He is also into world music and can talk for hours about the delights of flamenco and fado.
‘I enjoy surprising people,’ he says. ‘When I meet someone outside work who’s seen me in the bank, they always look a bit surprised because I look so different. It just shows that
you can’t judge a book by its cover!’
