“Girls and boy should be taught separately”

Nowadays, most schools are mixed, so that both boys and girls attend and learn in the same class. Nevertheless, this fact can be a little controversial in some way, as there are arguments which support it and others which oppose it.

On the one hand, being both gender in the same class can be a very big distraction, especially in the adolescence, when young people feel less concentrated because of the opposite gender presence. Furthermore, it is proved that if all boys and girls were separated, it would suppose a more advanced learning, as they develop different capacities and skills in every period of time. Research has shown that, for example, during childhood, girls develop linguistic capacity before boys, while these are better in Mathematics areas.

On the other hand, it is known that co-education has brought equality as it has end with a lot of discriminatory stereotypes of women, which people used to have in the past. In addition, everybody knows that we find ourselves in situations with both girls and boys in our daily routine. We have different kinds of relationships with them, so it is part of the education to help people to be more sociable since a young age.

To conclude, although students separation can be considered an educative advantage, it wouldn’t provide them any sympathy about the other gender worries neither how to treat or be related with them. I strongly believe it would bring again a lot of prejudices about the capacities of each gender.
