Discussion essay:

Grils and boys should be taught separately

Not so long ago, girls and boys were usually taught in separate schools. Nowadays this has changed and it is very common to see mixed groups of students learning together. Nevertheless, is this a positive or a negative fact for pupils?

One the one hand, teaching boys and girls separately helps to create a stricter atmosphere in the classrooms. Consequently, students are more concentrated during the classes and take more profit of their time. Moreover, this fact promotes a very positive feeling of fraternity and sisterhood between boys and girls, respectively. This feeling can make students help each other and progress in a more uniform way.

On the other hand, separating boys and girls at school stops students expressing themselves and showing their real aspect. Furthermore, the fact that boys and girls do not see each other in class makes them behave in a more irresponsible way when they are outside the school (or high-school) and they are together. This can even affect their private life and delay their maturing process, specially if they are adolescents.

In my opinion, although teaching boys and girls apart can give good results in terms of studies, they should always be taught at the same time. If we want to have good students, we also have to trust in them and give them the responsibility of learning together. I think that mixed groups of students are a sign of maturity, freedom and modern society.
