A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE

A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE

One month ago, my friend Maria and I went on an excursion to the Atalayas, the mountains of Peñíscola, with her elder brother to the Atalayas. Maria had recently got the driving licence, so she decided to drive herself and bring us to the place.
We spent an amazing day there without trouble. In the afternoon, while Maria´s brother was sleeping deeply fast asleep on the grass, she and I decided to take again the car again to admire for a while the beauty of the views for a while. After a while, Maria became very nervous and worried because she realized she couldn’t stop the car. Unluckily, the car brakes had broken, and every minute she was driving faster. We began shouting desperately without thinking twice. In addition, we managed to see a cliff in the distance and immediately became really hysterical. The car was really out of control.
Luckily, some minutes later, Maria’s brother appeared and ordered us to jump out of the car. We did it and afterwards, saw how the car fell down to the sea. Fortunately, nobody was hurt and eventually, the car was taken out from of the water by a derrick. My friend and I were shocked during a week as we have never felt so much fear in our lives as we did. I really hope nobody has suffers ever this experience ever.

Narrative essay: "A frightening experience"

A frightening experience
Every summer my family and I used to go to our country cottage. I will always remember the day when we decided to take a stroll. I had been was walking with my little brother in the evening forest and everything seemed to be perfect and quiet until the moment when he suddenly disappeared of my view.
I didn’t understand know what to do. It was the first time this had happened to me. I was absolutely petrified. I needed to calm down and look for my brother. Unfortunately, I had no mobile phone. At first I thought about asking someone, but I didn’t see anybody. It was getting dark. After searching for my brother in that gigantic forest, I stood for a while to recover a breath, and, completely desperate and exhausted, I started to shout his name, but nobody answered. All of a sudden, I heard someone’s fast steps coming nearer closer to me…
I couldn't believe my eyes what I was contemplating:  that “someone” was my brother! He was finally found and absolutely safe and sound. We decided to come back home immediately. I’ll never forget that terrible experience and those emotions of happiness that I felt when I saw my little brother again.

Monday 25th Reading Comprehension

SMART HOMES

Imagine a home that thinks about your needs and adapts everything in your house to make you as comfortable as possible. These intelligent or ‘smart’ homes used to exist only in the world of science fiction. Now, although their number is relatively small, smart homes are a reality.
Up to now, most homes have had little more than the main electrical circuits, a few phone lines, and a few TV cables. However, things are changing. Complex communication
networks can now control everything from security to irrigation systems.
Imagine the possibilities. You get home in your car. As you approach the driveway in your vehicle, you press a button on your remote control. This tells the house that you have arrived home. The control system of your house activates a pre-programmed set of functions. First, it turns on the lights in your driveway, garage, hall and kitchen. Then, it deactivates the
security system, opens the garage door and unlocks the interior garage entry door. When you finally enter the house, there is no need to worry about heating or air conditioning: the control system has already adjusted the rooms to a pre-set temperature. It has also turned on the audio-system and your favourite CD is playing. From the bathroom, there is the sound of
running water: your intelligent home is preparing a nice hot bath for you.
It is 7.30 the next morning. You wake up to the sound of your favourite CD playing in the background. The lights in your bedroom switch on. The burglar alarm system is de-activated. In the kitchen the coffee machine turns on to make you a drink. The curtains and blinds open and let in the morning sunshine. Meanwhile, in the bathroom, the towel-heater warms the towels. During all this activity, you lie in bed thinking about the day ahead.
These are just some of the ways in which smart home technology can change people’s lives by automating everyday, simple tasks. People in favour of the technology argue that it will give us more free time, reduce stress levels, and generally improve our quality of life. On the other hand, some people say that it will make us all lazy and fat!
